Steinbach Basketball Camp
Goal is to facilitate basketball culture in Steinbach - Teaching athletes a) How to develop basketball skills (Create independency), b) How to compete (Accountability), c) How to teach others (Self-organization).
For the month of August (8 total sessions: 4 coach-led sessions, 4 player-led sessions)
Tentative schedule: August 5th (Coach lead), August 6th (Coach lead), August 7th (Player-led), August 12th (Player-led), August 15th (Coach-led), August 16th (Player-led), August 19th (Player-led) August 20th (Coach-led),
Location: Outdoor Court (Confirming)
Time: 8:30am session start time, 10:30am finish time
Cost: $200 (Paid before the start of camp) using eTransfer (firstname.lastname@example.org)
Additional details: Player-led workouts will be organized and structured by coach instructors, Jon Giesbrecht will attend the first player-led session. Athletes receive 20% off on our JG Elite Summer Camp (August 23-25).
Jon Giesbrecht Bio (Instructor):
Jon brings experience from all levels, including work with youth, high school, university, national team and professional players. Jon has worked with both local university programs with the Winnipeg Wesmen and two years with the Manitoba Bison.
On top of Jon’s university coaching experience, he has worked with the Basketball Manitoba’s Provincial teams in the past since 2014, including a National Championship in that year with the 17U Male group, a first in the province’s history. Jon is currently the head coach of the John Taylor Piper Varsity Boys basketball team. He was a part of three high school provincial championship teams since 2010 Jon’s individual coaching honours include 2013-14 Junior Varsity Coach of the Year, 2010-11 WMBA Bruce Russell Memorial Coach of the Year, and recipient of the Jim Bulloch award presented by Basketball Manitoba.
Zach Giesbrecht Bio (Instructor):
Entering his 4th year with the Manitoba Bison basketball program as a player, Zach is eager to continue coaching this summer. Not only does Zach bring university playing experience, Zach played with the Manitoba Provincial Team for four years as an athlete which included winning a National Championship with the 17U male team in 2014. Additionally, as a high school athlete for John Taylor Collegiate, his team was undefeated and won the AAAA provincial championship in his senior season (2016).
Zach’s coaching experience includes assistant coaching at John Taylor Collegiate, coaching with his brother Jon Giesbrecht in 2017 as the 15U male provincial assistant coach, and working with Junior Bison Girls’ basketball program.
Zach has also developed a passion for player development – working School 4 Hoops, JG camps and taking on clients for individual training.
